The Brij Disa Centre for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence intends to provide impetus for research, industry consultation, assistance in policy making, as well as teaching in the area of Data Science and AI. The Centre aims to play a catalytic role in this changing scenario by producing and disseminating critical knowledge for academics, government, organizations, and leadership, through data science and AI. The Centre will conduct an annual survey of industries on the adoption of data science and AI, and develop insights into its adoption by industries in India vis-a-vis other countries, reflecting the state of the current industry practice. To meet the above objectives, the centre is looking to hire candidates for multiple open positions.

General Manager



The Brij Disa Centre for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence seeks applications for the position of General Manager to enhance its strengths in research and education. The successful candidate will be the key administrator of the centre who oversee the various activities of the centre that include, research, training, education, knowledge dissemination, industry connect, among a number of other activities that will help the centre gain visibility both domestically and internationally.

Job Description: The candidate is expected to spend 50% of the time on administration and another 50% on research. The individual will be involved in working closely with industry and academic partners to drive the activities of the centre. Along with carrying out independent research on topics/themes that are aligned with the centre’s vision, for instance, sample survey, operations research and optimization, statistics, machine learning, graph theory and networks, and its application. The General Manager will be responsible for conducting an annual survey to understand and project the adoption of data science and AI in the country, identify the pitfalls, and suggest policy measure to support and sustain the growth. The Centre would provide necessary support to the individual for carrying out and presenting research, including funding for data collection, fieldwork related travel, etc. as per Institute policy. The General Manager will also have to create a monthly communique from the Centre to take stock of activities within the Centre and recent trends and developments in data science and AI in industry and academia, both within India and globally

Qualification & Experience Requirement: Master’s or Ph.D. from a reputed Institute or University in India or abroad, specializing in data science and artificial intelligence (defined broadly). Minimum 9 years of post-qualification experience is needed, which can be relaxed for exceptional candidates. Prior publications in conferences or journals are preferred. A good network in the analytics industry with an experience in administration will be an add-on. We also encourage fresh PhD candidates to apply for this position, who would like to distribute their time between research and administration.

Age: Maximum 50 years as on last date of Application. Institute provide age relaxation as per GOI rules. Additional 5 years’ age relaxation is given to the women candidates.

Salary & Allowances: Selected candidate will be offered a fixed term appointment for a period of two years on a consolidated monthly salary on CTC mode, which may be extended for further period as required. Salary will not be a constraint for the deserving candidate and will be commensurate with the candidate’s profile and experience.

Research Associate (post-doctoral)



The Brij Disa Centre for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence seeks applications at the Post-Doctoral level to enhance its strengths in research and education. The successful candidate will work on topics related to Data Science and AI. This position is contractual, initially for a one-year term, with provision for renewal up to two years depending on performance.

Job Description: Post-Doctoral Research Associates are expected to independently carry out cutting-edge research on topics/themes that are aligned with the centre’s vision, for instance, operations research and optimization, statistics, machine learning, graph theory and networks, with applications in the areas of finance, operations, marketing, economics, etc. The Research Associates are expected to publish high-quality peer-reviewed journal articles out of research conducted at the Brij Disa Centre for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and present work in national and international conferences. Research Associates may collaborate with an IIMA faculty but must be able to demonstrate independent thinking and be able to independently design and conduct original research.

Required Qualification: Ph.D. from a reputed Institute or University in India or abroad, specializing in data science and artificial intelligence (defined broadly). Publications in peer-reviewed journals are preferred. Candidates who have defended their dissertation are eligible to apply. Candidates need to submit proof of defence at the time of application, and the Ph.D. degree certificate at the time of joining the institute. In exceptional circumstances, candidates who have not defended their dissertation are also eligible to apply under the condition that they will defend their thesis within six months of joining the institute.

Remuneration: Around INR 75,000/- to 85,000/- per month. The compensation can be increased for exceptional candidates. They are eligible for office space and desktop computer. However, the institute would not provide accommodation.

Research Associate (pre-doctoral)



The Brij Disa Centre for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence seeks applications at the Research Associate level to enhance its strengths in research and education. The successful candidate will work on topics related to Data Science and AI. The position is contractual, initially for a 6-month period, followed by annual renewal of contract based on performance and project requirements.

Job Description: The research associate is expected to support cutting-edge research on topics/themes that are aligned with the centre’s vision, for instance, operations research and optimization, statistics, machine learning, graph theory and networks, with applications in the areas of finance, operations, marketing, economics, etc. Along with research support the research associate is expected to help with certain administrative responsibilities at the centre.

Required Technical Skills:
(a) Understanding of Business Analytics, Data Science, Visualization, Big Data etc.
(b) Basic knowledge of useful programming and spreadsheet tools such as R, Python, SPSS, etc.
(c) An analytical mind-set who enjoy helping participants solving problems and turning data into useful actionable information.

Key Responsibilities:
(a) The candidate is expected to provide support to centre faculty and post-doctoral fellows in conducting research in the area of Data Science and AI.
(b) Provide academic and administrative support (including holding of tutorial sessions, if required) during workshops and conferences.
(c) Developing analytical tools and techniques that can be applied on a variety of business applications. The output is expected in terms of research publications.
(d) Problem-solving aptitude – identifies/defines problems, seeks root causes, develops and implements various solution strategies.
(e) Help the faculty develop new course materials, assignments and case studies that may be required for the programme.

Required Qualification: A first class Masters degree in Statistics/ Operations Research/ Economics (with specialisation in Econometrics)/ Computer Science / Mathematics or a closely related subject preceded by a first class Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject. The Masters requirement can be waived-off for exceptional candidates.

Remuneration: Around INR 30,000/- to 40,000/- per month. The compensation can be increased for exceptional candidates.
