The 'new campus', spread over 39 acres, is separated from the Main Campus by a highway but is connected to it by a pedestrian subway under the road that also functions as an exhibition space. The architect for the first round of development was the Ahmedabad-based firm, HCP Design, Planning and Management, led by Bimal Patel. The complex, built over a period of about seven years (2000-07), consists of nine student dormitories, each with about 40 rooms, an academic block, an executive education complex with classrooms, a dining hall and 160 hostel rooms, 120 two-room apartments for married students, and the Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship. The buildings use exposed concrete but, in a tribute to Louis Kahn, the architect of the Main Campus, ensure a correspondence with Kahn's rigid geometry and simplicity, his characteristic "reticence of the architectural language" and the austerity of his large blank walls. Another eight dormitories, designed by STUP Consultants, were built in 2011-12. A new round of development, aimed at adding more classrooms, sports facilities, a school of public policy and student accommodation, was initiated in 2019.
