Professor Gunvantlal A Patel worked in the Centre for Management in Agriculture from 16th August 1978 to 31st March 1982.

Prof. Patel obtained his BSc in Agriculture in 1938 from the Mumbai University. He then persuaded his MSc in Insect Ecology and Economic Entomology from Cornell University Ithaca in New York. Later, he completed his PhD in Economic Entomology and Insect Physiology from Cornell University.

He worked for various organizations prior to IIMA. Prof. Patel worked in the capacity of State Entomologist with the Government of Bengal in the Department of Agriculture in Dacca. He also worked as a Professor of Entomology at the BA College of Agriculture in Anand. Prof. Patel was also Superintending Agricultural Officer in Rajkot and Joint Manager for the Gujarat State Cooperative Marketing Federation Ltd in Ahmedabad.

Prof. Patel functioned in the capacity of Vice President, Entomological Society of India in 1953. In 1970, he was awarded a certificate of appreciation for excellence in the editing, display and layout for Agricultural Atlas Gujarat State in the first International Exhibition of Farm Journals by the Indian Farm Journalist Association.
