Abraham Koshy was a faculty member of IIMA from 1989 to 2018. At IIMA, Professor Koshy was a highly regarded teacher and corporate trainer.
He held degrees from the University of Kerala, the University of Calicut, Cochin University of Science and Technology, and the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. He started his career as a probationary officer with the Union Bank of India and subsequently switched to academics by joining the School of Management Studies at the Cochin University of Science and Technology. He also worked as an Associate Professor with the Centre for Management Development in Kerala before joining IIMA as a faculty member in 1989. At IIM Ahmedabad, he held several administrative responsibilities as the chairperson of marketing area, chairperson of the alumni centre committee, the editor and chairperson of the editorial board of Vikalpa: The Journal for Decision Makers, and as a member of executive committees for various programs and activities. He was a visiting scholar at INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France and a visiting professor at the Strathclyde Business School, Glasgow. He was also a visiting professor at the European School of Management (ESCP-EAP), Paris, and at Glasgow University, UK.
Professor Koshy conducted training programs for senior executives of several companies, both in India and abroad including Matrix and Astro Group of companies; Mauritius Telecom, Johnson & Johnson (Asia-Pacific), STMicroelectronics, General Electric, the Sumaria Group of Companies, the Zubair Group of Companies, OTIS Elevators, Pfizer, the British Council, Total Elf, the Indian Oil Corporation, Tata Steel, Torrent Pharmaceuticals, the Bank of Baroda, Zydus Cadilla, Mahindra & Mahindra, Apollo Tyres, HDFC Bank, and Bharti Airtel.
He conducted executive training programs in Singapore, Malaysia, France, the Sultanate of Oman, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Kenya, and Egypt. Professor Koshy was closely associated with several companies, in India and abroad, as a consultant addressing decision issues relating to marketing strategy, product and brand management, and customer management processes. He was an independent member of the board of directors of public limited companies such as Malayala Manorama, the Federal Bank, Cera Sanitarywares, Autoline Industries, and Deepak Cements and Chemicals. He was also a member of advisory committees constituted by government organizations and industry associations.
Professor Koshy's areas of expertise and research interests included new-brand development strategies, product and brand management processes, customer relationship orientations, and social marketing. He was the co-author of Growth and Transformations of Small Firms in India and the co-editor of Managing Alternatives and Marketing of Information Products and Services. He conducted research, sponsored by the World Health Organization, on developing a communication strategy for a revised national tuberculosis program and on evaluating a public-distribution system in Kerala and other parastatal organizations. He published several research papers and case studies in journals such as Revue Francaise du Marketing, Asian Journal of Marketing, and the IIMB Management Review.
