India stands at a pivotal moment in its transition toward sustainable mobility. This day- long workshop at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) will bring together policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, and other stakeholders to deliberate on pathways that directly support and accelerate progress toward India’s national electric vehicle (EV) production and adoption targets.

The programme will engage with all critical aspects of the EV value chain. Discussion themes will include consumer adoption trends and patterns in personal transportation; public transit and private sector fleet transitions; the manufacturing ecosystem and supply chains; advancements in battery production; and the development of a resilient charging infrastructure integrated with the power grid. Consideration will also be given to operational requirements, maintenance practices, end-of-life management, recycling, and opportunities within a circular economy framework.

A unifying emphasis will be placed on the formulation and implementation of effective policy interventions to stimulate both EV production and adoption. Drawing on domestic and global experiences, the workshop will assess progress achieved to date, analyze prevailing challenges, identify sources of uncertainty, and explore strategies to accelerate the transition across all modes of urban passenger and goods transport in alignment with India’s EV goals.

Hosted by the Centre for Transportation and Logistics (CTL) and the Centre for Sustainability and Corporate Governance Research (CSCG) at IIMA, the one-day workshop on 'Accelerating Electric Vehicle Adoption in India' is scheduled for September 12, 2025, and will address the technological, economic, social, regulatory, and industrial dimensions of India’s EV transition. The sessions will comprise keynote addresses, invited talks, panel discussions, and policy dialogues, complemented by interactive exchanges designed to generate actionable recommendations for advancing India’s shift toward a cleaner, more efficient, and inclusive urban transportation system.
